We understand that visiting an establishment with a child can be incredibly challenging. There are often many things a parent or carer will be worried about... Is it appropriate for my little one? Will they be scared? The questions can be endless. That's why we are dedicated to creating a warm and welcoming environment for our younger visitors at Glenochil and Stirling.
We are delighted to announce the introduction of our two mascots, coming soon!
Glen the stag is our mascot for Glenochil, whilst Delphie can be found at Stirling.
What to expect: Visitors to Glenochil can pre-download the Glen story book "My Visit to Glenochil", which explains the process of visiting Glenochil especially designed for children.
We have two versions- one that doesn't use any prison terminology for visitors who don't know they are visiting an establishment, and one version for children who do. A physical copy of each book can be collected for free at the Visitors Centre - just ask staff.
Authors: These books were created by the visitor centre team and Father's in custody, creating a perfect collaboration that we hope will help make your child's visit more fun and informed. The men helped create the storyline and provided the illustrations.
We will also be introducing footprints that visitors can follow up to the visit room to keep younger ones engaged and to help with those who may have additional support needs.
Stirling: As we develop our services in the new HMP/YOI Stirling, we are working alongside the women in custody to create and deliver the same resources that were available at HMP/YOI Cornton Vale, such as Delphie the deer and "Delphie's guide to visiting Stirling".
Family Visits
Children's visits are a more relaxed, child friendly visit session, available at both HMP Glenochil and HMP/YOI Stirling. Our team facilitate a variety of arts and crafts activities and provide families with a nutritious snack platter to enjoy together in the visits room. We also work will FCO's to offer 4 fun packed events each year for families. These are Easter, Summer, Halloween and Christmas.
